ABOUT MELKBOSSTRAND
Melkbosstrand is the closest coastal "village" North of Cape Town, its rural ambience and holiday town type atmosphere being retained by the International Nuclear Safety Council on the north and by the Nature Conservation greenbelts on the south.
To the East further developments have been thwarted by the Local Authority and a Government urban edge resolution, which have insisted that services and infrastructure for residential developments would not be provided or allowed (until such time as the authorities change their resolution - as they frequently do.) Currently there are only a few pockets which could be developed. All this has made our village even more sought after.
And to the West... We have the Atlantic Ocean
Activities
For all water sports, surfing, windsurfing, diving and fishing, this is the place to be.
Ditto for sports enthusiasts; there is the local Club, Atlantic Beach Golf Estate, 4X4 club, tennis, squash, cricket, golf driving range and paint ball. There are horse riding facilities and for the more sedate; Koeberg nature Reserve, library, bowls and strolling on endless beaches with views of Table Mountain. Renown wine farms are within 20 minutes.
Melkbos' low crime rate is an added attraction for those seeking a relatively small town lifestyle. It also provides easy access to the seaside resorts and picturesque towns to the North.
Restaurants
Its handful of restaurants and pubs are extremely popular, even for the city slickers - especially over weekends and holidays.
Café Orca deserves a mention...Booking is essential any night of the week, and
The Melkbos Skerm also provides traditional seafood feasts. Eastern fusion has Sushi to perfection. The Spur and others cater to compliment all tastes.
The Birkenhead Shopping Centre houses a Pick 'n Pay, numerous smaller shops and take-aways.
General
Medical and other professionals are in abundance. The retirement village is sought after. Melkbos is practically self-supportive and there is little need to leave town for services, products or purchases.
We have a crèche, after care and a pre-primary, a private farm school and government primary school, plus bus transportation to other higher grade schools; which adequately serve educational needs.
Locally there are 2 gyms and a martial arts instructor.
Ou Skip is a popular caravan park, which amongst other boasts a large swimming pool. There are privately owned "Plettenberg homes" in the park, which are quite sought after.
Churches of practically all denominations are here to stay...Praise GOD.
For those who like to indulge in big city activities; Tableview with its entertainment, night life, malls, cinemas, fitness clubs and hospitals is a mere 10 minutes drive. Cape Town, The Waterfront and International Airport are about half an hour away. Canal walk, Grand West Casino, Rotanga Junction, N1 City and Tygervalley are all 20 minutes or less.
For a country bumpkin town, you can't get much better than this! |
